The sports physiotherapist is involved in the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries resulting from sports competition or training.  

They play role in providing evidence-based advice for athletes and their coaches to enhance their performance. This is achieved through designing bespoke injury prevention, maintenance and recovery interventions in conjunction with the wider support team. The team have a comprehensive understanding of a proactive clinical care model and its role in the minimisation of injury/illness risk. 

Sports physiotherapists working with international/elite athletes have extensive experience of the challenge of the ongoing management of pre-existing conditions. Overuse/overload injuries are one of the most common reasons to attend physiotherapy services. The physiotherapist works closely with the athlete, their coach and other performance services to best assist athletes in their preparation and training..
